Default V70 2.5Tdi 1999 Fuel filter / pump

I am trying to confirm the location of the fuel filter for my V70 2.5Tdi 1999, the Haynes manual I have says its in front of the o/s rear wheel - in front of the fuel tank... I look but although there's plenty room - there is no filter there, just the fuel lines... My Haynes manual only covers engine data for a petrol engine - so I figure it is related to the engine type being diesel. I search the www and find all kinds of conflicting info... some folks saying as the book, others saying under the bonnet drivers side... I look there and I see something which could be it if it incorporates the filter within a housing... When I look at available replacement filters online - their images don't match what I have found thus far except maybe this one~:

If I am at the right spot, it looks as though there are 3 bolts to the top which then allow the base unit to detach but what is the white plastic cogged bit at the underneath for?

Many thanks

You enjoy better responses if you post your query in the correct forum; this is for post-2007 V70s.

that is the correct filter for your car which is located on the drivers side under the bonnet. looking at it you have to take off the steel protection cover that is covering the filter this drops down then unscrew anti clockwise the fuel filter which will then drop down, fill the new filter with diesel and reconeect the new fuel filter and then the cover. be prepared for a bit of cranking for the filter to completly fill up .hope that helps

MOunted on the drivers strut tower, remove the 13mm (from memory, may be 10mm) bolt down through the centre and the cup comes away from the head, its easier to remove it from the car and do it on a bench
