XC70 Cycle Rack
I have an XC70 MY2010. Has anyone any experience of using a cycle carrier that attaches to the rear load door rather than a towball mounted unit?

Not me, but I have a Volvo towbar mounted 3 bike rack. Great piece of kit!

Thanks for the reply. Is yours the detachable towball or fixed?

It's the detachable towball. I think I've got a picture of the whole set-up somewhere.

I carry bikes a lot, but inside the back of the car. Years ago I ran saloon cars (usually BMW's), and tried all sorts of rear-attached bike racks, eventually settling on a towbar-mounted one (a cheap one as per this one: http://www.towsure.com/product/Clipp..._Cycle_Carrier ) The reasoning was that the ones that strap to the rear door usually have webbing straps & hooks over the door top. First they mark the paintwork, and second they are easy to steal, third you usually can't open the boot with them on... The towbar-mount is lockable, and also doesn't scratch your paint. Better ones (like Maxxraxx) also swing away allowing full access to the boot... As I say, now I carry the bikes inside the back... |
