New S80 owner question
Hi guys,
Have just bought myself an 08 plate S80 SE Luxury which is just fantastic, I am loving the comfort, the smooth ride, the gadgets and the premium sound system! I do however have a question, after about 10 minutes of driving the aircon starts making a whirring/ whining noise, which also seems to change as I accelerate, if I turn the aircon off and then back on it goes away for another 5 - 10 minutes, changing the setting of the blower in the menu makes no difference. Has anyone else come across this and if so has it been resolved? Also do Volvo keep records on recalls that have been done on my car and if there are any outstanding should they fix them FOC? Thanks in advance Si Last edited by Gingerboy99; Jun 30th, 2011 at 22:53. |

Shouldn't make any sound. Could be the accessory belt that drives the air con compressor may not be tensioned correctly? May not be easy to see or tell, but worth opening the bonnet while running the engine with air con.

Is it a D5/2.4D? If so, I'm pretty sure there was something belt-related causing failures in or around 2008. I can't remember off hand, but it might be worth ringing your local dealer if you can't find anything online as I think there was a recall.

recalls listed here: http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/rec...hes/search.asp
however, there may also be a Volvo 'technical bulletin' which they send to dealers to help fix frequent problems, so the advice to consult a dealer is good.

My 08 D5 S80, too has noisy, than im used to Air-con.
You can audibly hear the change when its turned off in traffic, its is not noticable when cruising though.

I have an 2007 2.4D and it has a engine rev relative whine with air con, too. It has been through the recall changes also.
Anyone here not have the sound? -Raja |
