Hard Disk Location
All,
Just trying to fathom out what is causing my satnav to not update - I have reported HDD errors on the start-up screen so thinking I need to swap it out - any advice on where the HDD is located? Thanks for your help as always. Nigel. |

Under the front left hand seat.
Note that the hard drive contains the operating system, you cannot fit an empty drive. It has to be formated and loaded before you fit it. And it is a special extra robust drive, with special OS. Other users have successfully fitted hard drives from nav drives purchased from a wrecker... Whatever you do do not discard your nav unit. It has an eprom that is coded to your car.... so you can swap DVD drive and harddrive, but you must retain your motherboard

I'm really confused as the update disk fails and sits at 160 minutes remaining and has done for weeks - but I can cancel the update and the sat nav works perfectly...

With old DVD drives and dirty / dusty / weak lasers, the bootleg copies that can be purchased for 10% to 20% of the dealer price reflect much less laser light and are harder to read
Original stamped DVDs work much better

But I'm receiving errors on the HDD and the DVD - the update was running well but got interrupted due to my battery running flat (yes I know now) since then it won't start or move so I think there is an issue with the HDD or the software on the HDD - maps and routing still work perfectly though so confused...

Quote:
Go into the nav diagnostics and see if there is a command to cancel the current load state and force a new software load. There's a few commands there... To load nav diagnostics: From a cold start (car was closed and locked for at least 20 minutes previously), turn ignition to POSI (engine need not be running), then press ENTER then BACK then ENTER then BACK repeatably during the nav bootup process until the diagnostic screen is displayed. Either from the steering wheel remote or the remote control. If you fear your battery running low, then run the engine.
