General: Xc 70 or Xc 90 ?

To be honest it's only the Haldex system that worries me as I know pretty much nothing about it or how to service it. If I buy a 90 I will learn about it real quick ! Hahahaha.

I totally get your recommendation for the GV but the main thing (apart from the age of mine) I want to upgrade for is more space. The GV rear seats in the newer versions do not fold flat and the distance from the back of the seat to the tailgate compared to the 90 is dismal. Ie I have to place my rods between the seats over the passengers seat or on a roof rack. In the 90 the would go in flat on the floor. One last selling point for the 90, it's A VOLVO and if my lovely little wife is driving that, I would feel much better knowing she is probably in the safest car on the planet. Servicing the the haldex has a filter located in different places (different generations were used. It can be hard to access.

The alternative is to simply syringe out the out fluid (as much as poss) then fill with mew fluid. Drive then remove small qty.

It is recomended to service on other makes not on the Volvo though.

I have previously used General grabber AT2 on the Suzuki which were very road like in handling but great off road.

I use Michelin cross climates on the Volvo as they are summer compound yet three peak rated. Excellent in snow, slush and muddy tracks etc.

Down muddy rutted tracks etc mine never slips and never sends grip to the rear. I do notice it however on snow and wet roads when pulling away quick.

For comfort and space the XC90 can’t be beaten.

Are you handy with the spanner’s??

It's difficult, isn't it - depends how far down the offroad road the OP wanted to go, as it were. If occasional, then Crossclimates/Hankook Kinergy 4S more than OK, if often, or on serious tracks, then your advice is the more relevant.

similar but with old landrovers (the fug stirring ones) skinny wheels/tyres = goes anywhere when on a landrover (series 2/3 esp),, lacking in comfort a "bit" compared to a xc90
