Don't just put a screw in, as it might break the rest of the plastic. Best way is to use a heated long thin nail and make a nice clean drive hole, just a bit smaller that the screw you are going to use. You can aslo use a larger drill bit to make a round groove, the same size as the head of the screw. This way, the head is going to sit in nicely and you can even fill it and paint it ever so slightly.

Or the easiest solution, is to get a replacement handle....

Check eBay, there are a few black ones on there quite cheap, but the chrome ones are pretty costly.

Hi I have this problem now on the driver's door. Can anyone recommend where I can get a replacement, eBay seems a bit hit and miss.

Update, I have managed to repair the broken handle (a spare would be helpful though) but I now have the metal link for from the handle to the latch mechanism not properly connected at the latch end, it came off while I was reassembling the handle, it wasn't clear how it reconnected but I've obviously done it wrong. I can feel the link rod moving when I operate the handle but it is not operating the latch. My Haynes manual provides no information about connecting the link into the latch, can anyone provide me with any tips please? Thanks.
