Default Which pads?

Euro Car Parts have two different sets of pads listed for the S40 2.0D (with 300mm discs).

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Vo...fed3da121&BKPA

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Vo...6d063ebc3&BKPA

I assume that the cheaper ones will be for the 278mm discs but does anyone know?

Thanks.

FRF parts (google em) are active on here and can advise you which parts based on your REG or VIN number , they are also pretty cheap for genuine volvo items.

I would expect cars to generally be like motorcycles; stock pads are the best compromise.

I have read various posts on here about pads and using the cheaper ones is not necessarily the best, posts about brake squeal - pads wearing out quicker. Dont use EBC etc. etc.

From what I gather Volvos own stock pad are the best to use and infact I had discs and pads changed at the front on my last service in Oct and they are spot on.
This is just my honest opinion.

Just to add that Volvo does not manufacture brake pads, they get them from ATE, so only the packaging is Volvo, but the manufacturer is ATE, 2.0Ds almost always have the bigger 300 mm disks whereas the 1.6D has the smaller 278 mm disks, That's why you can fit 15" wheels on 1.6Ds but not on 2.Ds.

I have read that the disc size is stamped on the disc and visible when you remove the wheel.

Go look and be certain!

There could still be specific qualities exclusive to Volvo branded pads. Not saying there is, but not all brake pad materials are exactly the same and Volvo can have demanded something particular.

I've used EBC in the past and if I’m honest. I think they are great pads. Also cuts down on the amount of brake dust you generate.
