Hi, re' chassis number. Are you sure that the number stamped above the heater box is the chassis number? I have a number stamped into the bulkhead in the same position as you indicate but it's not the chassis number or any part of it. check again.

If you use the chassis information that you have stamped into the chassis what do you get when you compare this to the expected data published say in the front of the parts book?

My number could be 11234B. Still don't really know what it indicates. Certainly not vin number. Any thoughts on this Derek?

Chassis Number fun!
My chassis # is 137181, but it also has P-44408-1957 on the plate, and I think the 08 signifies a car destined for California. 6 Volt system. Transmission plate marked M4. The car has 4 gears but is not syncro-mesh in first. Supposedly the car might have started life with a 3 speed transmission, so my transmission is currently a puzzle. |

https://katterugclub.nl/volvo-pv-444 P-44408 is a "special" (higher spec) car for the US of A (so I assume not necessarily California but the whole country) The chassis number falls within the "B" specification That had an asymetrical dashboard with a new steering wheel Three part chrome bumpers - some sort of sticking out bits on the bumpers (I'm not quite sure how to translate that bit!) and a bulging bit on the rear bumper that sticks out over the licence plate light Indicators - traficators? - on the roof of the vehicle
