Default Noisy and Power down after service

I had a routine service on my 2009 XC60 2.4D Drive this week and noticed on the way home it was noisier and the power was down.

Took it back to the garage today who have rechecked the pipes/cables etc in the service areas and can not see anything that's been knocked and also plugged it in and it has no fault codes logged. The garage is a Volvo specialist so has the correct equipment.

The car is still down on power, especially in the 1500-3000 rev range. Has anyone got any suggestions on other things to check which can cause this without fault codes.

Thanks for your help.

Perhaps it is fault code that his equipment can't read? It has been noticed before here that indies can't always read all the codes b

Check that he is using VIDA. Is the fuel consumption affected?

They have Vida, instantaneous fuel consumption seemed to read higher, I will reset the trip tomorrow and see how it goes, long term average is reading 37.5 currently.

Check a wheel isn't getting hot in case a calliper has failed and a pad is binding.

Check the vacuum mounts are OK.

What sort of noise is it making?

Reset the average mpg today and drove 150 miles and got a reading of 40.6mpg.

The noise is just general rough running like it's not 100% happy.

I filled it up with diesel today and after a few miles it seemed a bit happier but not 100%.

I have a theory but am not sure if this is possible. The drain hole by the filler cap was blocked, I intended to ask the garage to unblock it during the service and forgot. On checking it today it is unblocked and the area is very clean, full marks to the garage for spotting it during the service and cleaning it up.

To get it so clean I suspect it was blasted with a pressure washer, could some of the water have got into the fuel tank through the vent hole in the fuel cap?

I don't think so, but anyway the fuel line has a water filter in it as it normal for water to form in the tank if it is only partially full and there is a temperature difference between the internal temperature and external. There are no fumes in a diesel tank to exclude air, and water can condense out in the tank. I take it the garage changed and emptied the fuel filter. Could be an air leak of course. I have had that before. I'm sure your indi will have thought of that though. Try posting your symptoms on the diesel engine section.

Lot of diesel have been suffering growth in the fuel system from the bio diesel element and that can block the system. I'd get the indi to find out why it's not running OK. Fuel consumption doesn't sound too bad though.

could also be that the engine is now running right and that previously it was apparently running 'quieter' because there was a fault?

These engines are grumbly, noisy beasts and your fuel consumption indicates that you are running pretty well.

If you want quiet then you need the new D4. However, D5 people seem to get very grumpy about that engine as there is no grumble or roar and they seem to like that.
