Default Broken timing belt

Hi I'm new to this forum and would really appreciate your help.
I have a 1999 S80 with the 2.5TDi 5 cylinder VW/Audi engine type (not D5).
Disaster struck - the timing belt snapped and bent some valves. I removed the cylinder head, got it reconditioned and ready to reinstall.

My problem is that I cannot find the crankshaft or camshaft marks on their respective pullies. How do I set both to TDC without reference points.

Has anyone got a 'how to' guide on this as I have searched for days without a break through.I can only find articals about replacing an 'unbroken' TB which would be relatively straight-forward in that cam/crank shafts could be 'locked' during the replacement of the belt.

All help would be gratefully received
