Default Very nice 740 saloon for sale.

I recommend this car if you're in the market for a nice classic Volvo saloon, great specification, good colour combination and a GLE (B230E).

If I didn't have a saloon I'd seriously consider this -

Default This was my car!

This was my car up until a week ago. I'm not connected to the seller and will be happy to answer any queries from forum members as it would be nice if it went to a good home. Briefly, I owned it for 2 years during which time it was completely reliable, the brake caliper was the first trouble I'd had with it in that time.

Given it was yours, why did you sell and did you try (to sell) on the forum ?

Jon

P.S pity was not a club car.

I sold it because I'm looking for a flat-fronted 740. My first Volvo was a 1989 744 GLE which, 15 years later, remains the only car I regret getting rid of. I'd intended to keep it until I'd found its replacement, which is proving to be a long search! but the mechanic at the garage where the caliper was being replaced asked me about it and my plans for it and when I mentioned that I would be selling it fairly soon, he made me a good offer for it. I hadn't offered it to the forum because I was originally going to sell it later in the year or maybe next year.

Just curious, and whilst I'm no longer Register Keeper, when I was I like to keep tabs on member's 700s, as I did keep a list of potential buyers thus keeping cars in the club and maintaining better prices for sellers.

If you had asked I sold* 744 GLE recently in a rare colour - sold very quickly. I rarely offer cars for sale on here; I even attempted to give a car away once, even that didn't work !

Jon.

*as in put seller in contact with a buyer.

P.S there have been plenty of 744s around in recent months, a few even now.

Were the centre caps with the alloys when you sold it? Also what condition is the drivers seat, difficult to tell as its covered in the photos.

The centre caps were with it when I sold it, the last I saw they were in the boot. The driver's seat has a small patch on the bolster, the leather had cracked and it was a temporary repair that ended up being permanent! Apart from that, it's fine (in all honesty, the description in the listing: 'stunning, best we have ever seen' might be a bit of a stretch), certainly good for its age.

former 700/900 Register Keeper VOC.

Bit dangerous recomending a car you don't know/haven't seen. Looks average compared to what can be picked up with patience.

Wouldn't blame anyone for not advertising on here....get lynched for asking anything over about £800 . In my experience the people who buy the absolutely timewarp examples are not "Volvo enthusiasts" per se (they're the ones who still think the best of best is worth about £1100), but people just interested in a solid classic.

That's just churlish, (I'm sure no-one on this forum wold buy a car at my suggestion anyway) my recommendation was that it should merely be considered/viewed if someone was seeking a nice 744 - I have one so it doesn't interest me.

And you know all about timewarp examples do you ? I regret that I'm having to agree with you about advertising on the forum - why the three cars I've owned and then sold weren't advertised on here - although two are now owned by forum members.

I've even tried to give a car away, that's the one owner, 60k from new car being broken now.

Jon.
