Hello all I am still having trouble with my 740
It runs ok now but it does die on be a few times after running ok for a week or so I have striped and cleaned the carb again and thought it was ok having tested it round the block .
but It cut out on me again .I found that the vacuum pipes on he carb were filling up with petrol I disconected the junction with the black thing next to the choke .and it went ok
is there a speical way these vacuum pipes go

sounds like your carb bowls are overfilling, have you disassembled the carb at anytime? I'd check the float and see if it hasnt developed a hole. Where do these vacuum pipes lead to?

Petrol in the vacuum lines? That's not good. You can use this diagram to check your vacuum connections. I could imagine a situation where a vacuum line is sucking the petrol if there's a wrong connection. Otherwise you might have to check the condition of the gaskets, check the float heights/weights, check the fuel pump pressure, and possibly replace the needle valves. Let me know if there's any info you require on your carb.

Which hose had petrol in? Can you identify it on the diagram? Remember that there are two fuel hoses going to the carb. One is the fuel inlet from the mech pump, and the other is a fuel return.

No, the fuel return hose isn't shown on that diagram but it is above the pulldown diaphragm. I suppose you could see how the car runs now that you have corrected the vacuum hose connections? If things don't improve you could consider buying a new Weber carb for about £250 if they're still available.

It seems ok
I only seem to have one electronic control valve and there is no pipe on the carb for it.see diagram
and have one white wire that has no where to conect it to maybe that was put on as a spare
The car is running fine atm
have not tried it on a long run yet
Thank you again

The switchover valve you have arrowed is only fitted on cars with air-con. It provides an idle speed compensation. Also, unless your car has EGR it won't have any of those vacuum lines that are dashed (- - - - -) on the diagram.
