Smile Hello from Newbie

Hi
Just thought i'd post having just acquired a 1993 460Xi with 58,500 miles in fair condition for a bargain price.

She has a few niggles and I was wondering if anyone on here can give me some advice?
The Fuel gauge seems to read what it feels like but I noted from other peoples comments that this common.
Having sorted out a couple of bulbs the n/s/r fog light does not seem to work at all even with new bulb is this common? Is this likely to be a simple fix or will it be an electrican job?
Finally, the n/s manual door mirror is smashed (casing and glass) I am trying to find a second hand replacement but i'm having no luck at the minute.
Does anyone know who could supply one.

I love the drive it gives you its one of the smallest cars I have driven but i am impressed with its handling.

Regards
Dajazar

The 460 is a very underated car. Im now on my second a very nice 460 CD turbo. With regards to the rear fogs they only work on one side although you can modify to get both to work. I still have the old wing mirrors of my 460. They are electric but the glass is the same. If you are ever down this end of the north east I will dig them out for you.

Hi Dave

Thanks for that.
I wondered about the fog light as there was no bulb when I had a look. However, the bulb failure light on the dash is still on but I can not see any other lights out. Is this also quite common?

Thanks for the offer or the door mirrors. I am therefore correct in thinking that an electric mirror would still work with the manual control knob?

A few scrap yards have electric ones but no manual ones, they also tend to be the later model rather than the 1993 ones.

Regards
DJ

Hi welcome to the forum!!

Merry christmas too...

I believe the newer type wing mirrors may fit onto your car but the interior plastics may not..I found the volvo dealer can supply the plastic parts for your wing mirror as they can be taken apart. Or indeed ebay.

Which fog lights (front, if present, or back)?

Your bulb failure light, have you checked all the external bulbs? the stop light on the rear window, if you have one, can be missed. Side lights, main beams (both high and low elements of the bulb) too. Are the constant tail lights and breaking bulbs correct? I think the breaking bulbs are twin filiment, always on and get brighter when breaking too.

Hi
The O/S/R fog light is fine, its the N/S/R which does not work.

The high level brake light is fine and also sidelights and brake lights are fine it maybe the front beam which I will check, although the driving light/headleads seem fine.
Thanks for the advice.
