Default V70, 2004 xenon vs halogen headlights

Been trying to source a replacement headlight unit for driver's side after a pigeon with a death wish smashed the headlight glass ( plastic actually). Have had several dealers insisting that my car has xenon headlights based on reg - 54 plate, year 2004 and Vin number. The car has regular halogen lights and so far as I can see has never had its headlights changed ( I've had it since 2007).
When did xenon lights become standard and why do the dealers insist that my car must have them? Any suggestions about a good source of replacement headlight unit?

do you know if the glass lamps can be retrofitted to the upto 2007?

Im assuming they lose the active function of the xenons but im hoping its possible to use the older units without causing any electronic issues apart from say a warning light for the xenons being logged as a fault.

Finally bit the bullet and ordered original valeo replacement! Got a new pattern unit at half the price but turns out they don't have any provision for electric tilt motor despite supplier assuring me that it's completely straightforward to refit the motor off my old unit! At least I've learned that dropping the bumper assembly is realy very straightforward ! Reckon that a bulb/ headlamp replacement is no more than a 20 min job!!
