Yes, run the tank low and shove it in with the remaining fuel

Thanks Joe but I want to purge with neat solution (not diluted with diesel through the tank) to give the injectors etc a thorough clean, which I know is more easily possible with the 163 engine. I believe this is the manufacturers (Liqui Moly) recommended procedure.

I am fortunate enough to have been running both a 163 and a 185 D5 for some time and have purged the 163 in the past but stumbled when trying to do the 185 at that time, due I believe to the higher pressure 185 in tank fuel pump output and associated need for same pressure at the input to the main fuel pump.

The 163 in tank pump is of a lower pressure output and subseqently the main pump is largely capable of "sucking up" its own supply.

Hope above makes sense !

Again, anyone worked out how to do this yet ?! Thanks again.

I’ve seen a video on the diesel moly website. Two filters and a jam jar I think it takes.

Thanks again Joe, that works on a 163 bhp engine (been there and done it!) but not the 185 bhp due to higher pressure output from the in tank pump. Thank you anyway.

Anyone else out there discovered another solution/method yet ?

The main thing here is not 163 or 185 engine, but if its a Euro 3 or Euro 4 spec, a E3 will run if you feed the diesel purge directly to the pump, a E4 will not! (163 or 185), this is due to a different fuel pump between the e3 or e4

On my V70 163 E4 model I used a spare electric fuel pump (rated at about 2 bar) I had to pump the diesel purge to the cars pump then it started & run!

Took the non technical route in the end.
Drained fuel filter housing (into clean bucket), removed housing and replaced fuel filter with new, filled housing with liqui moly and replaced.
Ran pump at key position 2 (until pump motor/gurgling noise stopped) to purge air.
Started and ran engine at varying rev's until anticipated that liqui moly had "passed through".
Repeated drain filter housing and fill/run through procedure 3 times until all liqui moly used up.
Filtered previously drained diesel from bucket and returned to tank, job done.

Car seems quieter, more responsive, easier starting, smoother to drive, but probably all psychological (have used it before and actually I do think this stuff works well) !
