XC70 2007 2.4T D5 SE LUX purchase
Had a 97 plate V70 10v for over ten years but I am now looking to buy a phase 2 V70.
Been looking at a torslanda V70 2001 with 67k miles. Also been looking at a 2007 XC70 D5. The D5 has done 215k miles, engine sounds fine. Its got a couple of fault messages on the dash: anti skid and parking sensor or dstc. Garage said they would mot it and remove the fault messages... Not sure if i should take the risk of getting the xc70 to fix up. I use a reasonably reliable indy garage for repairs. Any suggestions or advice is welcome. PS. Got a strange popping/pulsing sound repeatedly coming through the hifi speakers when the electrics are turned on.

The anti skid message could be anything from a broken reluctor ring on one of the wheels to a faulty DEM unit (4WD controller), if you can test drive it, see if you can get it on grass or gravel and try and provoke it to wheelspin, if it spins just the front the 4WD is goosed - if the garage is repairing it, it won't be an issue to you.
Parking sensor will be a failed sensor in the bumper... Engine should be still good for a long time, but check the swirl arm is still attached - lift the engine cover and it's on the driverside - these are notorious for breaking. If auto - have a look on here for the numerous threads on them - but get it hot on a test drive and see if it is changing smoothly. There's no dipstick on the autobox of this age, so you can't check the fluid. |

If it genuinely is an SE LUX then carefully check the shockers, they're around £500 per pair. If it doesn't have electronic shocks then it's not a LUX version.
There should be a button down near the gear lever with "Sport / Comfort" on it, make sure it works and doesn't throw any faults at you when you try it. Good luck

Its manual, had one slight knock on the underneath.
Got some mitchelin all season socks on 18 inch wheels which look right on the car but im not sure they are the best option. 2007 i cant work out what model specific it is, there is some kind of crossover for that year. doesnt have satnav in the dash, yes it has the expensive! 4c suspension, and a couple of other functions i wasnt sure about. Cant work out if its the end of phase rather than the beginning of the next phase. Having surfed for some of the dreaded issues i would expect, they dont seem to be that bad in these cars. There doesnt seem to be that many catastrophic ones, just relatively high overheads potential. The parts list online is quite impressive. Yeah my mechanic told me to listen out for failing transfer box thanks.

Been looking to see the availability of the 4C dampers but can only find pricing on the front set, the rear set seem harder to find.
Followed a few of the links on here but the actual monroe website wont list 4c for this model. I think i read here someone saying the 60 model 4c works on the xc70. Is there a change between 2006-2007 XC70? that might mean they dont supply dampers for this 2007 model anymore? I would hate to blow cash on the car only to find it impossible to get hold of the 4c dampers for it.

Damn I just test drove the SE LUX and it was great fun, pretty sure the 4c was working and no obvious bad noises from anything.
Bad part, I used the internal code check system and it came up with an ECM! BCM, CEM, CCM, REM and UEM codes stored. So I gather if it throws an ECM code, its one to be avoided or is there still hope it can be fixed?
