Sorry I didn't understand that " been told a couple of times that the 940's have a "reset/code" cable" was referring to the technical section on the site, and It does need updating not easy on the eye, but useful.
For a 95 940 you should have two diagnostic boxes in the engine bay, or if it was a very early OBD2 style connection, which will be hiding under the armrest, would depend on the model year yours is, but would need the VIN to say for sure. if you the the OBD2 style plug, it will not work with a normal obd2 reader, you will need to make a breakout box, good instructions on the site here, BUT SRS system seems to be a harder area to make work. I am short on time to night, but do enjoy hunting for things so will have a look around... The wire you refer to was used in another "inbetween" was for 91/92 ish cars, and is a jumper wire, as in just a bit of wire that you ground out a certain way and it makes things flash, and 780's had one built in somewhere but that was it, the wire is just a bit of wire of your own.

mine does have the basic OBD connector in bottom of armrest pocket. HOWEVER this does NOT hold any cables for SRS, it only works for engine codes and ABS.
It does NOT have any diag boxes in engine bay as ive now said many times. Ive been searching around the centre console fuseboard this afternoon,I can see the orange SRS harness, but cant see any cables sticking out of it, especially a Brown with black tracer..... |

It would be more useful for help if you had put in the original post, I missed the post were you said you have the ODB2 connector, and sometime parts that are missing are down to strange and weird things people in the past have done to the car, making life much more annoying.
The OBD connector should have a wire going to pin 7, it may have a broken pin or just be dirty, which relates to the SRS system, have you checked the back of the connector? not calling you an idiot but it can be easy to miss a wire, if should be a grey with orange tracer

Just found one other option, not a cheap one sadly would you need to Install VIDA and get a decent DICE kit, some are sold on here tested and working, get it up and running and it should be able to act like VCT2000 which was Volvo diagnostics software way back when.

funnily enough, i do have a 2 disc copy of "VIDA", however, i cantget the program to load to any computer. It does a memory check , says "insufficient space" and refuses to install. Iv etried on laptops with 160gb memory, 2 office style pc's with in excess of 3tb memory and still wont load. plus trying between XP, win7 and win8....still nowt.
I will dig in to the centre arm rest when i can, let you know if i find any remnants of the orange wire you kindly refer to. Thanks. |

Check the bottom of the armrest under the plastic clip cover. On my 98 there was no obd socket but I found it under the arm rest as it had been dislodged at some time and had moved away from the small opening. I only found it when I was replacing the hand brake cable and removed the centre consol.

Ok, so dug in to the centre console arm rest, slipped the OBD connector out to visually check the cables, YES Grey/Orange cable IS there....I tried to use this as the diag check wire, in so much as using the "grounding sequence" as listed in the forum instructions, but to no avail. The system still would not even get the fault light to even blink once.
So backup plan 3..... replace the SRS crash unit.....SRS light now clears and stays out. I still would seriously like to know how to reset these srs lights on this system....just so I can clear the fault light on the two redundant srs crash units I now have. LOL. |

SRS light stays on
Hello Stegreg could you please tell me where you found the srs crash unit as I have the same problem on my 1998 940 est. I have tried everything I can find to reset it but to no avail so I guess I will have to replace the srs unit as well.
I would welcome any info you can give me. Thanks Pennti Pete |
