From now until October it’s just the existing congestion charge zone where the ULEZ applies. After that it’s anywhere within the north and south circulars.

I believe residents will be exempt which is some bonus if you choose to live in London (which I don’t anymore &#129315

Cheers

I thought all cars etc had to pay the congestion charge no matter what fuel they used, the congestion charge being for the amount of cars entering the city, the ULEZ charge is entirely different, this additional rip off charge is to do with emissions, so going back to my original question, are cars running on LPG exempt ? All other cities are going to follow suit. David.

From TfL website:

"Convert to gas

You can choose to convert your vehicle to run on pure gas with a spark ignition, using an approved conversion.

If your vehicle is registered in Great Britain, you'll need to register the conversion with the DVLA and obtain a certificate from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), formerly VOSA. Please be aware that vehicles converted to run on bio-diesel don't meet the required emissions standards. "

Really grey area tbh.

Getting back to my new number plate (G350DPL). My new 'Q' car is a 1990 Ford Granada (petrol).

You can go to the DVLA and TfL's websites/checker to see how wonderful my new 'Q' car is. Like any modern car being registered on 29 March 1990 it has no MOT History (or other info). However, I was a little concerned to see on the '... is it taxed and Mot'd' webpage that it has been untaxed since 2004, and quite rightly no MOT data is held.

I also looked on MID and Car Check websites as I was horrified that the car is not insured, and the reg plate could not be found on the latter. Clearly they are incorrect.

The TfL page to go to for detail of my ULEZ and LEZ status, and all other info (should you be interested or have time to 'play') is:
https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ult...t-the-standard

Off tomorrow into the City of London to take a walk up 'The Monument' with my disabled sticker.

Bob

One oddity of the ULEZ is that if your vehicle is "tax exempt" then you are exempt from paying the charge - my Volvo 'people carrier' (Volvo Ailsa bus) can go into the ULEZ, although I would have to pay to get there a the LEZ has a fixed cut off date of 1973

Good excuse to buy a classic car I suppose...

That's why I am waiting for my car's 40th anniversary when it will become exempt from any charges, and maybe why I have had a couple of 'is it for sale' enquiries just this week. Reckon I'll have to get some higher security fittings!!

It's unfortunate that by that time I may not be in a position to drive. So if you might be interested in an investment I shall shortly be opening a list of those who might wish to show an expression of interest.

Default pollution charges

Can you be sure KelvinP about cars that are VED exempt will not be charged under ULEZ? My wife's MG Magnette is exempt being 61 years old so we need to be sure that when she drives to, for example, the Dulwich Picture Gallery just inside the South Circular road (A205) she won't be charged.

All you have to do is go to the TfL webpage above and type in the MG's reg and it will show you if their computer systems think your wife's car is exempt (which it should be). If not you contact them to tell them of the error in their systems. Bob

As my Volvo 164 and Volvo 145 are both tax-exempt (both pre 1972) I put my registrations into the appropriate site - and both would be liable to the ULEZ. Now I thought both were exempt, but apparently not, so I too would have to investigate further before I go into town.

Default pollution charges

I have just been on the TFL web site and entered the MG's registration and it seems it is not exempt from the ULEZ charge which is really the only one I was concerned about. I was offered to start an account called London Road User Charging a/c and would need various documents to prove the MG meets or is better that the TFL levels for emissions. This includes a statement in document form from the manufacturer! So I gave up at that point. The whole system of ULEZ is ridiculous in my opinion and needs to be exposed as such by the various classic car clubs at least. Those with older cars are not likely to drive around in London or any other City/Town in the UK every day are they? Anyway, it is only in the last 20 years or so that there has been any concern about pollution so it must be newer vehicles who have caused the problem!
