Default Just bought an xc60 d5 awd!

IHi All. Iam brand new. First ever vovlo. First question. I cannot remove factory fitted tow hitch? Stop/ start won't work, it says on screen low battery which is true. All help gratefully recieved. Lastly for now! It's a manual 6 speed box. Some Transmission / road noise at certain speeds between 40-60mph is this normal for AWD. Is goes resonate. Shall I just turn radio up? Regards

Because of lockdown, everyone’s getting the low battery warning, it’s your stop/start battery. My car has this issue too, the stop/start battery needs either charging or replacing. Someone on here can advise on this but don’t remove it yourself.

I get rumble through my motor because it picks high gears (I have an auto) at low speeds which causes it to Labour. Try changing down to see if it goes away.

The tow hitch thing, no idea.

Congrats on your new motor

TT

Adrian, I bought an XC60 a year ago. It too has a tow bar which is great for towing my caravan and saved me spending in excess of £700 for a new one. I was also getting the Low Battery warning and to save continually removing the panel at the battery I bought a CTEK which I use for my other Volvos but also bought an alternative charging lead which I plug into the electric plug on the towbar. Excellent piece of kit. Fully recommend and not too expensive.

The low battery warning this year on my 64-reg V70 D4 was for the main battery. A couple of years ago I’d left the sidelights on for two days while it was left parked in a multi-storey car park. Not the best way to treat a car battery. Probably did it some harm.

The small battery runs the auxiliary features while the engine is stopped but the main battery is needed to restart the engine. If it’s in a weakened state, however, stop/start ceases to function even when switched on in order to avoid the risk of not being able to restart the engine.

Have you unlocked it before trying to disengage the bar which on my XC70 you push in the knob and turn to do so.

Check those tyres and tracking. What make and model are the tyres as it maybe a all-season tyre that is inherently noisy. Are the pressures correct. Eco setting does increase road noise.
That said, when I bought my XC70 it was noisy too. The Continental tyres were misshapen plus the rears had sawtooth wear. Also rear tracking was out. New tyres and tracking sorted it.

Hope that helps, but with the towbar get photos and post them up, if it is removable and never been removed the locking may be seized so needs consideration on how it should work and what may need to be oiled (not WD40 but a proper penetrating oil)

And a good few thumps with a hammer and a block of wood!

different types, but they are designed to be secure so they will either work fine or appear nto to budge. probably just something else you need to press or disengage.

My drive is a 2012 D5 AWD, I have no transmission /road noice between 40-60.
There are a number of threads on here regarding “Low Battery” warnings and Stop/Start not working. Upto a few days ago my S/S was misbehaving but followed the info in threads to reset battery management and it’s worked perfectly since.
I find taking the time to trawl thru past threads saves asking loads of questions.
( no insult intended). The guys on here are always very helpful but I’ve noticed and I’m guilty of not looking at what has already been asked.

Thanks All.
My thoughts, hammer and wood for the hitch I think is required. Battery charged itself and now stop/start is working. The front offside noise is loud, starts around 38mph and goes quieter around 65mph imo an ongoing issue and will be returned to the sellers car lot for investigation very soon! Hopefully a wheel bearing or driveshaft carrier bearing. Tested AWD off road today and it works fine so not a bevel box failure of haldex unit issue. hope it is a bearing as it does my head in😣BTW. All 4 tyres are Michelin altitudes 255/65R 18.tyre pressures?? They have about 3mm to wear bands!! Regards
