Proper ones are fully automatic and the aerial extends and retracts automatically when the radio is switched on/off or if the ignition is switched off while the radio is on.
Ahh, yeah originally it was - used to retract when keys out and was always up when ignition on.
I nicked the switch from a 960 saloon and retrofitted so I could retract when listening to the iPod or going through a carwash! 👍

Cheers

According to this diagram (page 8) the permanent live going into power antenna should have a green/red colour. Page 20 should help with identifying the lamp wires in the loom.

All you needed to do was interrupt the aerial control line out of the back of the stereo (usually blue, sometimes orange) and the aerial would have gone down, no need to completely rewire it for manual operation.

That said i'm more worried you don't switch the engine off going through a car wash!

Gavin - for some reason that link isn't working for me, just comes up as a blank page. Any ideas?

I think you have to have Adobe Flash PLayer enabled. I use the Chrome browser and it asks me to do such before it reveals the file.

I'm using Firefox on Linux Bionic Beaver OS and it would normally tell me the same but it didn't - fairly sure i've got it but i'll double-check, thanks!

*** EDIT ***

Definitely got Flash Player as YouTube works (that needs Flash apparently) and even tried downloading it again from Adobe just to be on the safe side. Still no joy. When i have a spare hour or so i'll fire the PC up in Windoze 10 instead and see if it works then.
