Definitely a "feature" on the XC90 too. Braking can be quite sharp sometimes, personally not a fan of braking on the motorway if it can be avoided.

thank you every one for your replies.

i agree its likely due to the angle i use to return to the lane, but i will play with the distance setting to see if that makes any difference.

I have a similar(ish) issue. On single carriageways, whatever the tech is called that keeps you in your lane (Pilot assist, lane assist, auto pilot??) seems to see the right hand road markings better than the left despite the right hand being broken up and left being a solid white lane. The result is when the car veers to the right it activates and brings it back into lane without even getting near the road markings. However on the left, it will wait till the tyres hits the rumble strip before correcting the steering.
Do I have a faulty sensor on the left or is this normal behaviour. Is there a setting I can change to make the left more sensitive?

Mine also does this occasionally. I've driven around 14k on motorways at this point.

Since getting the car I now know that I need to be quite vigilant on the motorways as the things it sometimes blips on are:
- Leaving tunnels - the change from dark to bright deactivates the steering assist temporarily at times.
- Exit ramps - sometimes the car will think that the lane is going off and will start to stray over the dotted line up the ramp. Other times it has just jerked to the left when it thought "oh no the line is going off to the left really fast!".
- The situation you described.

All in all I think the system is at the point where you do really need to keep the hands on the wheels and hold on at all times just in case it blips.

Default V90 Pilot Assist

Over the last year I have been watching the issue of lane change with my V90, and it has always been consistent until my last update of the s'ware and the improvement seems to be that when a vehicle move into your lane the car almost anticipates and feathers the throttle before I need to intervene, whereas before it would be touching the brake (I usually drive with the car in 'Dynamic' when cruising on a major road.)

Now as a techy, I believe that the electrical centre of the Radar beam is aligned to the vehicle centre-line, so when a move is made to change lanes any vehicle ahead of interest, will appear as a target somewhere off centre of the beam dependent on the host vehicle angle. The software will provide limits which overlay rather like a Safety Trace on the Radar beam, and so when a target breaches the trace it activates an appropriate response depending on how far the down/up the beam the target is located. So I can feel that the response does vary dependent on how I take the approach to the lane change.

I hope this makes sense!!
