Take the bulb holders for the reverse lamps out Mark, remoe the bulbs and clean the bulb contacts and also those in the holder, particularly where the bulbholder contacts make with the PCB contacts on the back of the lamp cluster.

Also worth "stretching" those contacts on the bulbholder to make sure there is good pressure on them when they are reinstalled.

While you have the bulbholders and bulbs out, check the bulbs actually work in the holders, it's unusual but it could be both bulbs have blown.

Also check the eart connections to the cluster, usually there's an earth point in the cubby hole below the clusters.

The original ones are NLA for long time ago.
Every replacement switch now is with new style connector.
Voltage at the rear light checked with a multimeter?
Do it with a test light.
Often the switch doesn't get enough way if you go in reverse. The connection is bad, voltage drop normal.

If you get power to light up the test light the bulb socket may be molten. Standart at this cars too

Good luck, Kay

It is a new style switch and connector

Checked voltage with multimeter

Checked voltage to bulbs with ignition on whilst engaging reverse as well

It can't be too much of problem to sort out!

If you are having problems after all you have done get/make up a low wattage 12v test bulb in a holder and connect it to the live input to the rear light and ground ... if it lights up (when you have the car engine running ... important point!!) your problem is at the light cluster. Bob

I still have the problem that my reverse lights only work with the clutch fully engaged, the minute I let it out they go out! Makes for fun parking sometimes on winter nights but I manage!

Wow! Secret homicidal tendencies Bob! Might pay to jack it up and put the back axle on axle stands while checking the reverse lights with the engine running!

Bet that's fun Ellie! Try pushing the gear lever further to the left, see if that brings them back on, if so, check your gearbox rear mounts and right hand engine mount.

Might need the little bushes renewed that Mark recently did on his, just before this fault appearred in fact.

Could be Dave although I don't know if they have ever worked from when I got the car last November. I just drive straight onto my drive and never park in the street. Strange one

I thought it was shortly after you'd done the gear lever bushes Mark - my mistake!
