Default M40 gearbox rattle

Getting a continuous ticking noise from gear box whilst driving and gear lever vibration. I'm sure it's normal for a box of this age but would like a second opinion.
PS thought y'all might like this latest pic'

Not sure about the noise, without hearing it, but I do like the red carpet!

Does this box have bushes at the gear lever base? if so may be worth checking.

What would be the symptoms of a broken tooth in one of the cogs?

Drained the g'box oil and this was stuck to magnetic plug. Any guesses as to where it came from? Does it look like a broken tooth?

This is the spare g'box. need to change the flange. Is the flange on a taper with key of splines. What would a box with this large flange have been fitted to. Do all the M40 boxes have the same internals, same gearing?

Default flange

The rear flange just slides onto the shaft. Remove split pin, retaining nut, flange may need a light tap with a hammer to remove it. Not all gearboxes/flanges have the same number of splines so you may find some difference. If your prop will mate up with yours in the picture, just fit it as it is.
