The kits come from Russia and the latest is simply a dongle that you plug into the OBD2 diagnostics socket and it does the rest without any installation from you. I have the earlier one which needed wiring into the loom in the tailgate and was a pain to have to do. I cannot speak for the latest version but I will say that the earlier one worked OK with a slightly longer delay between pressing the remote and the tailgate closing compared to pressing it and the tailgate opening, but the delay can be seen as a safety factor avoiding hitting anyone standing by the tailgate. Having owned this mod for a couple of years I find that while it works OK, there are far less times that you need to use it than you imagined before you bought it! But since I love gadgets and modding my cars, I'm still happy to have the facility which Volvo obviously saw as a possible safety issue and didn't include.

The guy selling these is:

Thanks. It would be a great feature to me, lifting stuff out and no hands to close the boot. If I can remote close it from the workshop it would save time and a walk out in the rain.

I've got the latest v4 module that plugs into the OBD2 socket and can vouch it being worth the money.
I previously had the first version that was wired which was temperamental at times so plugging this into the OBD2 and working from the off is fantastic.
This new module also controls the Auto Locking function when enabled by Auto Unlocking the doors when the engine is turned off.
Also can "permanently" turn off the Stop-Start function if you have that.
Significantly cheaper than the module offered by VolvoTech which is more suited to older models where more functiality is available.

Thanks I placed an order this morning for the wire in one without the sounder.
(Not a fan of things pluged into obd port. I prefer them out of the way)
I also ordered the tail light upgrade kit too. Not sure if I like the upgrade or not but for 15 euro and the postage already paid on the boot module I thought I'd take one and see how it looks in the flesh.

Let us know how the improved wiring kit works.
The first one was quite fiddly and prone to coming loose.
Further to your comment about the OBD2 module it hasn't caused any issues - I even forget to remove it before it went in for a service which intially raised eyebrows at the garage but didn't cause any problems just a few inquisitive and approving comments from the techs. I tucked mine into the side compartment behind the light switch. I wrapped it in a piece of foam tape to strap it rattling.

Fitted it tonight. Works exactly a tatsfield described. Wire into tailgate. 5 wires. Fiddly job. Have to hold the button for 4 or 5 seconds to close.
Really like the tail light upgrade I got too.
If my spoiler is ready this week that means I just need test and tax
