Default Power tailgate dropping.

Hi, Does anyone know how the V70 power tailgate works?. It opens and closes as it should, but slowly drops after a few seconds. It seams like a hydraulic ram that is creping down.

My old 2010 V70 did this at times . It had a hydraulic ram on the passenger side under the roof lining , and a pump unit in the side panal .
Dealer said that had sold a few rams.
Never got to fixing it.
The later ones are non hydraulic , ie my 2012 XC70 has not got all the pipes , and sounds different when opening.
Could be ram or the valves in the pump unit . The ram is cheaper , but still around £300 if I rember right plus seal fitting kit and oil.

Thanks Rodger, It was a very cold morning when I noticed it was dropping, (the top of my head noticed first) but the weather has warmed up since and all seams OK now. I will have to remember to keep my head down on cold days.

Yes it tended to do it more on cold days.

I've got the same thing on my S3 V70. 9 years old but only 45K miles, bought it a month or two ago. Will see if I can get if fixed under warranty. I could just leave it, but was camping this weekend and putting stuff in the back when I nearly got chopped in the nose by the tailgate which had lowered itself to eye level. You can programme how high it goes up to by pressing the tailgate button for 3s (I think) but this doesn't fix it with minel

Mine was doing this, going up then back down maybe 4". So I opened the boot door manually, then held it up as far as it would go, and then pressed the close button, whilst holding it open, did this twice.now it opens fully, I read somewhere this resets the things that need resetting.

I had the same problem on my 2008MY V70. Bought 2 new struts - Stabilus, as fitted originally. Stabilus part number 437135 in my case.
