Default 2004 V70 Fan Speed Knob intermittent

Hi, I've searched for this particular issue but can't see another that matches.

I've got a couple of issues with the Climate Control, but this specific query is about the fan speed knob lower left only works intermittently to adjust the fan.

The fan does work ok with auto and it does speed up and slow down by adjusting the temp controls but quite often, that manual speed control does nothing.

The number of bars on the display can for example be showing 3 bars but turning the control left or right does absolutely nothing. Than just as suddenly it'll start working again and the fan speed will change as expected with the bar display going up and down correctly.

This is a US owner but it's exactly like this

This is a common problem on the V/S40's - it's most likely the POT that has failed or is failing. Sometimes you can bring it back to life by spinning it back and forth many times but other times you are stuck taking the CCM out and desoldering the POT and replacing. I've done the latter successfully on my V40 and it completely solved my issues. Not sure if this helps or not. Or you could head to the wreckyard and get a replacement CCM.
