Default 700/900 series

What diesel engine can I fit to any of the 700/900 series estates this is purely a economical exercise as I will use the vehicle as my prime business transport and at the risk of offending the purists amongst you it need not be a Volvo engine
Thanks Devlin

hi there,
well, I have a 740 estate with a factory fitted D24T engine... It's a volkswagen engine, but it's good...
If you wanted a bit more oomph, you could get the D24TiC.. The Intercooler version.. that is about 120 bhp..

God you do go about it the hard way!!! How much are you going to spend doing that? A £1000 ish?? okay so you'll have put a load of time and effort it and be getting 30 - 35 mpg from it. Now bear in mind the diesel is a little more expensive not much of a saving. When are you going to see that money back?

Well how about an LPG conversion??? For £970 fitted you will have a car that would be doing 22 - 30 mpg at 35pence a litre!! Or if you wanted fit it yourself and only spend £670.

A much better option do you think?

Devlin, in all seriousness you should look for a good condition diesel estate, preferably with D24TIC engine and see if you can obtain 100% Biodiesel in your area or produce it for yourself. It will cost around 32 pence a Litre, protect the fuel pump, give you more mpg and more bhp into the bargain. There is too much work involved in converting your car to diesel and the returns are getting far less than they used to be when converting petrol to LPG. You will need to keep a very sharp lookout as they are getting as rare as rocking horse pooh.If you can get one later than 1993 you should have the best of the diesels. Mine produces around 185bhp, averages around 38mpg, and runs extremely smoothly.

All the best, Peter.
