Has anyone been able to have their DRLs put out without going to a Stealer. My Dealer wont do that, even though the Drivers manual says its a Volvo Dealers job.

The Dept of Transport say:

Vehicle manufacturers must fit DRL to new types of passenger car and light goods vehicle (car derived vans) type approved to European vehicle requirements from February 2011

DRL activate automatically when the engine is started and remain on unless the headlamps are switched on.

The inference is that you have no control over turning them off and the dealer is worried about being held liable for a breach of the regulations and liability if you were to have a culpable accident. The ability to turn them off is there for vehicles which are used in countries where there are no DRL regulations. Why do you want tro remove them? Statistics say that they are likely to reduce multiple vehicle daytime accidents and fatalities by up to 6% once all vehicles are equipped. You cannot see the ones on your car when you're driving and they add less than 0.5% to CO² and hardly anything to fuel consumption. If there was some compelling reason, you might find that you can turn them off with a VIDA/DiCE set but you might have to explain to the police and your insurers why if you have an accident.

Some dealerships will turn them off, some won't. If its classed as an interference, then why doesn't it come into an MOT as an instant fail?

Maybe the reason why the original poster wants them turning off is because of the cost of the bulbs, especially with the DRL's being on all the time, apart from at night.

I've come across plenty of Volvo's that should have DRL's on & don't, so someone must have turned them off either at a dealership or at an equipped garage. I'm sure if they did the job that they didn't start quoting The Department of Transport's statement whilst doing so either... It'd be more like take your money & get you out the door as soon as.

Its not compulsory in the UK to have DRL on, and we will be out of EU control shortly anyway.
I have a dislike for them from the time when I was nearly involved in an accident when someone claimed that they thought I was flashing them out of a road junction by flashing my headlights, even though it was a few years ago.
I have had numerous Volvo cars over the years, and always have the DRLs turned off as a matter of choice to save the battery in winter is one other reason besides not having to change Dip Heaadlight Bulbs on a regular basis

I've turned my drls off because in my opinion and I stress my opinion, I think I can judge the distance better of other cars when they don't have drls, so in theory they can judge the distance between them and me better if that makes sense.

The problem with finding a dealer to turn the DRLs of is serious where I live, my nearest Volvo Stealer is 40 miles away in Carlisle and refused to do it when I had the car serviced recently.
I think theres another at Staveley, buts thats further away, and we only have one Volvo Indi in the area about 12 miles away, and He almost certainly wont be able to get the download from Volvo required.
It was convenient when we had a Volvo Dealer 10 miles away in Cockermouth, but they moved the franchise to their Carlisle Branch in favour of BMW, and in my opinion failed to also move the personal service they provided at Cockermouth.

You can get your dealer to change what lights are on in the various switch positions. You can set up the Auto position so that dipped beam is on, or not. You can change the sidelight option too. I prefer fog lights as DRLs and have had my V70 changed to this setting on auto. However, I have just bought a 2013 C30 and it comes with LED fog lights to use as DRLs, but the dealer has changed the settings so that the dipped beam headlights are on instead (which I don't like). As there's no front foglight switch to turn them on manually that means there are, effectively, no front fog lights...

As it's a 2010 car it is nothe affected by the regulations which apply to 2011 on cars.

My dealer changed my settings for me no problem, mines a MY2010 car registered on a 59 plate.

Unfortunatly my dealer is about 450 miles from you.

Do you go on holiday, work in other areas? There no reason a trip to the dealers cannot be combined with other activities, and if a dealer local to your destination will do it why not drop the car off with them while passing or even wait for it. Takes about 10 minuets to do. I left the car with the dealer and he fitted it in between jobs, but that suited both of us.

Paul.
