Gearknob and servicing
Hi guys,
Am new to S40 ownership having just purchased a 2001 Y T4 Sport with 67,000 miles. The car is in superb condition and I rate the car very highly, but have a couple of questions. First of all, the gearknob feels loose and moves up and down independant of the shaft running on to the linkage. Does anyone know how I take it off and tighten it or add a rubber washer, as it makes an already slightly ropey gearchange feel worse. The other question is do I take it for servicing at a dealer or specialist. My local specialist is Walkdens of Chorley and they quoted £200ish (178+vat) for a 70k service and my local dealer Stratstone quoted £323! Is this because the specialist does not include replacement parts or is it Volvo changing things which do not need changing and charging a lot per hour to do it? Many thanks if you can help Matt H |

RE: Gearknob and servicing
Re servicing - it's just Volvo's eye watering rates per hour........ No I don't use them anymore.
