first question I have to ask is .. are they a "generic" garage or do they "specialize" in Volvo's ???

NOTE TO OTHER MEMBERS...............

Anyone know of a Good "Indie" near to Steve ??? I'm too far north (Blackpool) they must be one near to Worcester that Steve can bob into fer a second opinion

Doubtful, my dads had his Volvo serviced there countless times and no issues!!

Also would a clogged / broken PCV have an affect on the oil pressure?
Cheers

No problem.
I have an S60,(2001).
Chris has done a few things on it, very pleased with the car.
He is a decent chap, very helpful , his rates are very good and doesn't rip you off !.
It would be well worth giving him a call.

Simon.

would they not have to do a compression test before coming to the knackered rings conclusion? also you mentioned the oil pressure, what was the relevance there? is the low pressure light on or something

No, I forgot to mention in my first post that the garage told me that the oil pressure switch had been disconnected, presumably to stop it coming on when the thickening qualities of the stop smoke came into play. This is what makes me think it is something more sinister than a broken / clogged PCV.

Any info / advice on this is more than welcome.

Thanks again
Steve.

Hi Steve

Sorry to read of the problems you're having - got to ask - where did you buy the car?

It may help others on here to avoid the vendor . . .

John.

It was a private sale on Ebay, so no worries about them being a rip off merchant, just looks like I got a bad apple here.
