Default D5 Parking Heater problems

Hi all

I have a V70 D5 '03 with a built-in parking heater with timer function in the board computer.

I have been using it regularly - more or less twice a day all winter (I live in Denmark). Now a few days ago while being on vacation in Norway for skiing the heater rejected to start. It is still possible to set the timers but the heater never turns on. When trying to force the heater to start by doing it manually using the immediate start option in the board computer it flashes ON for a couple of seconds and the OFF again.

No sound from the heater, not the usual ticking from the pump - just dead....

Have any of you any experience what could be the problem? I already checked the fuse

You may not get much assistance with this problem as heaters are not available on UK Volvos. One thing which springs to mind is the amount of fuel in your car. Is it running low as that can be a reason for the heater not to start (to prevent the heater running the fuel low).

Thanks. Yeah - I know that feature, but then it normally displays a message saying that fuel is low and therefore starting the heater was cancelled. Still I have half a tank of diesel available.

I thought all D5's were equipped with parking heater - but that's maybe only Northern Europe and arctic areas ?

Not here in the UK, sadly.

Check the battery charge, as trucks have night heaters and if the battery charge is low they won't cut in. Run the engine for ten- fifteen minutes until the battery is charged, then set the heater to come on for five minutes later, if it comes in and then cuts out, you may need a new battery, good luck.
