Question Steering lock service?

I had a strange experience in one of the eating establishments on the M4 yesterday. I got back in the car, put the key in and tried to start the engine. I got a message 'steering lock service required' and the engine wouldn't start, no starter motor, nothing. I was on my way to the Houses of Parliament for a tour so was a little concerned. I fiddled about, turning the key repeatedly (and aimlessly). I then took the key out, looked at it and put it back in. Guess what? It started and the message disappeared. Anyone else had that sort of problem? I was on the verge of panic until it started. I assume it was a key problem?

Cheers

Brian

your car was trying to tell you something , neglect it at your peril , you will be left stranded ! Best get it in to get the fault codes read to decide if you need a new ignition switch or electric steering lock , Both can fail .

Sounds like one of those wonderful modern additions like the Mercedes E class I drove that told me it was entering "simulated brake failure" - and then actually MADE the brakes dangerous to drive !

Turns out a pad level warning wire had snapped on the front..

Probably best to get it plugged in and see what's going on
