My local volvo dealership used to be in a different location in town, you used to be able to park next to parts and walk straight in there without going though the main area. Now it's moved and shares with Land Rover. I've walked though the show room sometimes looking utterly terrible, hair all over the place, beard that makes me look like i've eaten a cat, boiler suit, big boots and never had a problem ^_^ Pretty shocked at some of the stories on this thread!

Ouch, Mike!

Shockingly, being 22 and a student, I can't remember really having a problem with dealers - while in Scotland just before Christmas the car washer pump had frozen, the only dealer nearby was for Volvo & Jaguar. I went in, got seen to straight away by Volvo, and while things were being warmed up, Jaguar were all too happy to have me poke around their XF, XJ and XKRs asking if I needed help etc.
Lexus Leeds didn't care about me showing up wearing scruffy jeans and a t-shirt to look at their IS twice. I felt extremely well looked after there.
A couple of years ago I popped into Jaguar for directions, in a hoodie and jeans. The salesman was perfectly happy to stand around and talk about their cars for half an hour before I left, no shifty looks at all.

Toyota Leeds were pushy and wanted to sell me a Land Cruiser, when I was after something the same size as the S40.
Skoda Leeds were just plain lazy. I told them what I wanted, what the budget was and they said they'd order me something in. 2 weeks later I had a Volvo on the driveway and only THEN got a phonecall saying they hadn't found me a vRS.

Ford never seem to care when I go to their forecourts - anywhere!

The only really bad experiences I can think of were at: Mazda, who wouldn't let me test drive an RX-8 a year ago! We were stood next to 5 of them, I asked to take one out for a drive because it was within budget etc, and was fobbed off with some excuse that they didn't want to let me drive it until there was a definite deal on the cards! And the other would be Peugeot in Bradford who had my car for 2 days and did sod-all work to it, then tried to tell me it was in for "diagnostics" when it had been diagnosed the week before by a tech who came out in the car with me!

So far, Volvo have been pretty good though!

Default Snooty Dealerships

I remember the first time I walked into an Audi dealership. It was summer, so was wearing shorts and sandals. I remember feeling like I didn't belong. Figured they were always that way. I didn't stay long, decided I didn't like the feelings, so wouldn't buy.

Later went back in, better dressed, and was well received. Totally different treatment. Same me, same bank account. Ended up buying an A4 and an A6. After they knew me they treated me the same no matter how I was dressed.

A few years earlier, at a Ford dealership, I was told I couldn't buy a car in my name only. I was the one working. My husband was disabled. It wasn't that big of a deal to me, until they told me I couldn't do it. I left, bought the same car I was looking at at another dealer. Then took it back to the first one and showed it off.

OK, first off, I confess I haven't read through all 20 pages of posts, (have scanned about half thou - honest!).......what an amazing response thou!

I am surprised, however, to read of so many disappointing stories of Volvo Dealers. I have had nothing but great service from main dealers over very many years. Tollbar in Warwick, (the subject of criticism in an earlier post), certainly used to be exlempary amoungst dealers, (this was in the 90's, perhaps things have changed). I had 2 S70's from them, (in the days when I could afford new cars!!). It never mattered what I was wearing, etc etc, the courtosy car was always ready and waiting at service time....they could not have been better. Indeed, it was one of the pleasures of moving to Volvo after the terrible "service" that Fraud, sorry Ford, offered, (quite apart from the better cars!!). Exactly the same from the Volvo dealer in Shoreham when I moved down there.

I am glad to report that Holdcroft here in Stoke continue my pleasant experience with Volvo Dealers. First time I went there I wandered into the showroom looking for the parts dept wearing old jeans, saggy old jumper and trainers but was still met with curtosy and politeness. They let me have a look over an XC60 as I mentioned that my brother had just bought one, and I hadn't seen one in the flesh, and on another visit, let me see if I could get the other half's wheelchair in the back of a V70 without folding it up, (it doesn't fit, btw, so 940 it is for now!). The parts department is even better - never have I found such brilliant customer service, and patience in dealing with my vague requests, (Well Done to Dave in parts especially - great bloke, and Volvo to the core).

Quite agree that there should be a "black list" for poor service, and certainly the attitude of the dealer that started this thread cannot be tolerated. Perhaps, however, there should also be a "Gold List" for excellence of service? I nominate Holdcroft Stoke as no1 on the latter list!!

Graeme.

I am devastated, and shocked. I really hope this gets sorted out soon.

I am presuming there was no sign 'check shoes are clean - no muddy boots please' or even a floor mat provided? Never mind you are the customer and you should not have to apologise.

Matt
Totally agree. Why would the dealership put a ceramic floor down if they were nt expecting to clean up the occasional mess? Cant help wondering how long that particular DP will survive!

I live in West Cumbria and being a customer for many years, have never had any problem with my local Main Volvo Dealership in the service and repair or parts department, I am on a first name relationship with most of them and they are always friendly and extremely willing. I cant say the same about the Sales dept; and one salesman in particular, but I have never bought a car from him and never wear a suit so maybe thats why.

Just to present a slightly different aspect to this story. I called in at Tyn Lon in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll this Saturday to have my V50 climate control checked (familiar tale?) to see if any parts were required prior to main service / MOT in July. I live in Holmfirth, West Yorks but am intending to use Tyn Lon as the Harratts dealers around my area have a poor reputation and Tyn Lon (prior to this thread) had a good reputation. Tyn Lon is actually convenient as it is 100 metres from my Mum's house so can combine service and visit.

Anyway, the reception yesterday was cheerful, friendly and positive. Despite having a large workload the lads took the car in, promised nothing in terms of a repair, diagnosed the problem and fixed it immediately. Come to paying, I was told that it would be added to the worksheet for July MOT / service - this despite the fact that it was my first visit there. Everyone seemed ok with me despite me wearing shorts, t shirt, sandals and holiday stubble.

Maybe instaed of the red corner / blue corner approach, Tyn Lon and Mr Brace should have a chat and resolve what was probably a spur of the moment issue by a stressed DP trying to meet demanding targets in tough economic times. We also mustn't forget that Tyn Lon has been around for 50 ish years as a Volvo dealer and I believe is still with only its second owner - though will stand correction if necessary. There must be value in that!

Come on boys - it's good to talk!

Can you get them to have a chat with the people at Taggarts in Glasgow?

Rang up to ask a question, got some arse of a woman with a wooden spoon up her arse, you'd think they were running Harrods or something!
