Sc-802 User Manual?
Hey folks. I have been running a 1998 S70 2.5 TDI for around 12 months now which, while a little noisy and rattly has sold me on Volvos.
The main problem I have had is the SC-900 stereo fitted, the usual problems with the 3 CD Changer occurred but an Ipod and tape adaptor fixed that. The main bugbear has been the intermittent radio signal. This work for about 2 minutes then cuts out, with an audible click, and cuts back in between 2 minutes and 2 hours later. I believe this to be a loose connection of some sort and rather than throw money at dealer I had planned to replace this with a single din unit I already own. The problem I have discovered is that it is the amplified version, for which I was quoted around £150 to bypass through an audio specialist. To bypass this I have just purchased an SC-802, for £10 from the breakers, phoned Volvo for the code and now have a radio that works again! This leaves me with two questions; 1. Is it worth trying to repair the SC-900? Is it any better, apart from the CD player, which seems (from the various forums) to be a known problem child anyway? 2. Does anyone have an e-version of the SC-802 user manual they can send/link to so I know which buttons to push? Most of the controls are obvious but things like ASC have left me scratching my head! Final thought, is it worth going back to the scrappies and extracting the boot mounted 6 CD Changer unit I spotted in the boot, or is running the wiring through going to be a long winded effort? |

Hi, the 900 radio is better than the 802 as you know but if yours is acting up and the 802 is working you might be as well sticking with it. ASC is active sound control, it alters the volume automatically when the car is noisier at speed, it has 3 levels.
I can scan you the 802 section of the handbook if you pm your email address so you can have a mess with the 802. Rich. |

Thanks for the offer. Just tried to send you a PM with my email but I have not posted enough to do so, apparently! I will keep digging for a posted source, but thank you for the offer.

Late reply
We use a cassette adapter (from Argos) which has a small jack plug to connect to a i-Pod (or portable CD player. Works like a charm and only costs a few quid |

I would definitely go and get the cd changer and wiring, easy to fit but also quite hard to find if you wanted to sell it on...especially the wiring
