Regardless of what the local cops tell you, leave your key, in the pouch, in the front hall.

If this was stolen to order they may come back and at that point you really just want them to lift the key without ransacking the house or coming upstairs to confront you or your family.

Unless you have the reputation and skills to ‘dominate the stairs’ which not many do, its not a movie, in locking your front door and leaving the key in a faraday pouch, inside the house and having reported the first incident to Police, you have done everything reasonable to prevent the theft and successfully claim on insurance.

Its a sad reflection on society that increased vehicle security has turned a lot of car thefts into a Brinks Mat style robbery.

Invest in a couple of motion activated outdoor cameras, much better image quality when dark. Identify the scrotes.

The Faraday Pouch is a Wisdompro Large Faraday bag, from Amazon.

CCTV is only any good if their faces are not covered, but these professional gangs are too slick for that. When I checked my CCTV, all I could see were two people, dressed in black, with either scarves or cycle masks on. The car they used, was parked down the road, away from direct line of sight of the cameras. Once they realised the car wasn’t going to open, they left. No fuss, no hurry, on to the next target.

Hi Mate,

Thats quite worrying are XC60s and XC90s really that in demand now that they're being stolen like this?

Sorry to hear about this. I guess you were prepared though!

I really hope this doesn't start whacking the premiums up like it did on Range Rovers and Range Rover Sports.

Where in London was this?

Thanks

52% voted leave, 48% wanted to remain.

I live in Pinner and there are at least four other 18 and 19 plate XC60’s within a mile of me, that I know about, and even more XC90’s. Volvos have increased in popularity round here in the last couple of years.

It’s possible, I suppose, that Volvos are now being stolen to order, although I wouldn’t have put them at the top of the list, above the ubiquitous Range Rovers and Porsches round here. Perhaps it was just opportunistic, who knows?

The only other relay theft of an SPA model which has been reported on here was also - IIRC - in Pinner. Maybe the same gang.

I doubt they are being stolen to order and on the forum we have only heard of one (unfortunately successful) theft, although the forum numbers are probably not statistically significant.

I suspect these people just see a nice new car which they know will have value.

I bought a cheap faraday pouch and an expensive one.

I can confirm both work equally well to disable keyless functionality

Yes it was my XC60 that was stolen in December 2018 from Pinner.

I did replace it with another XC60 and now I keep the keys in a Faraday pouch and also use a Stoplock Pro.

Volvo do need to quickly make changes to the keyless entry system in either making it stop transmitting after a short time with no movement or introduce a PIN code that I'm sure could be easily built into the Sensus Connect or mobile app.
