What the heck is it made from?
Hello lads
I went out last night to stick some L plates on the V70 so that I can finally get my wife to drive. I tried the tailgate first and nope! the damned thing wouldn't stick. "OK I'll try the front" but again the magnets wouldn't stick. I gave it a knock with a knuckle and they don't appear to be plastic. Does anyone know? maybe aluminium, or CARBON FIBER woo hoo!!! It used to be called Bulk Moulding Composite. I first had it on the bonnet and load door of a BX16 which I bought when my 245GLE caught a severe case of the rust bug. Its a fibre reinforced polymer composite that can be manufactured to a high degree of accuracy and now used throughout the industry. Like me you don't notice it until I tried to put my magnetic GB sticker on the rear load door.

The bonnet is aluminium and the tailgate is a fiberglass/plastic resin thing so sadly, non ferrous at both ends.
Gaffa tape time!

We have the same problem for my partner's l plates.
For the front I use ones with elastic, thread it through the egg crate grille. On the back we use one that sticks (through surface tension, not sticky glue) to the inside of the glass. However, the tint on the glass means I'm not totally satisfied with this but it is the best I've come up with so far... Another possibility would be to stick some magnets on the inside of the glass (I have some lunatic power rare earth magnets that might be good) and then attach a magnetic l plate to the outside of the glass. |
