Depends which engine, all the 4 cylinder b2xx do not have ODB2/EODB. Some later models have a socket that looks like ODB2 but its not compliant with the protocol.

You can buy a special Volvo only reader that works with it but its alot cheaper just to make an LED reader like that fitted to the older cars (eg upto 1995).

Aah, so having a '95 940 instead of a '96 doesn't mean one is missing out on some ultracool feature?

No, you are more likely to have the diagnostic port on the suspension strut so you can actually read codes without the need for some LED type reader!!

Des. . .

I have a "scangaugeII" fitted to the obii port in my Toyota 4Runner. It's permanently installed in my centre console and it provides numerous readings ie. ignition timing, mpg, volts etc. etc. Has an LED display also powered through the obii port.

It can also read the fault codes and clear check engine lights.

The good news for you is that only obii ports(1996 and on) can facilitate such a device/reader.
I bought mine in the States but I'm sure something similar will exist in the UK too. obii is a standard connection/plug which is used by motor manufacturers across the globe.

Try googling obii
