We have used a locker with the weight cut down on shale ovals. To be honest, a normal welded diff worked as well. A modified G80 might be a bit twitchy on a road car-its not what they are meant for really though.

Interesting. I'm just gonna try it with a weight cut right down. If I dont likening I'll put standard g80 in and hope for the best.

That's good to know. I wonder if that was working because it had no slip. I'm sure one wheel needs to spin before it throws the weights to lock the diff and then it chucks it out after 25mph. But if it isn't locked but driving both wheels on the clutch pack it woont be able to kick out after 25mph.

Best way to tell if it is a G80 is to take the back plate off and look at the diff then search on google images for g80 diff photos.

I have only ever seen one sticker actually still on the axle and I've had 6 940s pass through my hands.

My understanding is that once the diff has locked, it won't unlock until you come off the power.

The weight just means it's unable to lock at above approx 25mph, to avoid damage to the diff or scary drifty moments for the sort of people who bought them new.

I'll post you the cut down weight in the next day or two

Thank jim.

See my understanding was slightly different. I thought it locks when one wheel starts to spin and stops locking when the weight is flicked out at around 25mph. But with the weight cut off I'd have thought it should stay locked until you cone off the power like you say. Which would be great for me.

I just want it to stay open until I give it a hand full and lock until I come off power. 😀

That's how they normally work - if they do unlock because both wheels are turning at the same speed, if one starts to spin faster than the other it will lock again.
