Not sure on the hot start problem. I did wonder about the temp sensor. I also wonder if there's something in the fuel system that isn't working 100% because it sometimes stumbles a bit when cold. I'm fairly confident that the ignition side of things is all good, but I'm going to check/clean all the spark plugs this weekend.

I’d have that in a heartbeat. I really miss the simplicity and reliability of my old 740GLE. It was one of the best cars I owned and I’ve been lucky enough to own some nice cars in my 20s. I wonder what my crappy Peugeot 106 would be worth if it passes MOT in a few weeks! Probably no more than a bag of crisps which is a shame!!

On these it's technically a hall sensor on the end of the camshaft. I hope that's not a problem, they're kind of difficult to get!

I took the plunge and stuck it on eBay, starting at £850!

Just a thought, as I've had a few 740s. My first was also F-reg and had its ABS unit bolted to the inner front o/s wing, using the fitted captive nuts. Another car had it in the boot, but my early car didn't have ABS at all (I realise Mr Volvo only fitted ABS during the later years).
So the question - why the hydraulic pipe 'spaghetti' in front of the master cylinder where on some of my cars the ABS unit fitted? Has the ABS unit been by-passed/removed? Remember, if the ABS light stays on after fire-up its an MoT-failure. Maybe that electrical feed has been by-passed? Personally, although the car looks very nice (if I could afford it!) I'd be a little concerned. Any comment - am I wrong here? P |

It has indeed been bypassed. Apparently the previous owner had issues with it. They must've sorted the light, it doesn't come on. Sorry I neglected to mention that.
