Default Tuesday

Tuesday she goes to Safi up the road (garagiste) who will start by doing compression test and leakdown test and then we will take further decisions. I will suggest he does each cylinder's leakdown twice - once with the piston at TDC and once at BDC. TDC is good and BDC is bad it's a block or liner issue and she will be available to anyone who wants to put engine and box in - there is a V90 on ebay (or is it marketplace) pretty much right now that might be good donor.

Default Progress? Or not?

Leakdown test tends to confirm head gasket and liners are not fubarred - but the running on 5 (or hardly at all) is back - sometimes - and the flashing yellow arrow of doom is back. Gravesend Transmissions read and cleared codes - still was showing an over voltage at the mode switch, and lockup failure - but it drove OK-ish (albeit with no power) and no flashing yellow arrow until I got to 70 mph. They will ONLY do a complete gearbox recon and refuse even to consider fitting the second hand autobox that I have acquired (with a head too). Feeling rather despondent. This morning nearly refused to start at all and struggled to move over the road to car-park.

Is it the AW or ZF box?

More worrying are the engine problems, if it won't start then there's no point replacing the box.

When was the ATF last changed though? I've known dirty ATF to cause misfire like symptoms and also cause overheating on the engine.
