1800E showing running hot
Hi all, just bought a really lovely 1800E. The water temp gauge shows the temp to be right at the top, just below the red, however the car doesn't seem to be running hot. I closed the bonnet and left it to tick over on a warm day and it didn't show any signs of overheating. The gauge does also seem rather erratic. Any tips much appreciated !

Welcome to this forum, and congrats on your new acquisition! High and/or erratic temp indication is a classic symptom of a hard (or intermittent action) failure of VStab (see here: http://www.sw-em.com/voltage_stabilizer.htm )...ask Graham W.!...so before condemning any part of the temp measuring system, I'd verify VStab output, and also actual temp with another instrument, possibly even an IR "gun style" probe, pointing at various places on Cyl Head or Rad.
