From my experience, SKF did Volvo stuff. Certainly everything on my old 850 was numbered the same except the stuff I took off had 'Volvo ' stamped on it , so for me SKF is the way to go. Swedish too I think .
Gates are great tho' States side company I think. I've used a lot of Dayco stuff too, not had an issue there either .
I'd go SKF, tho two times my local main dealer here in France has told me to go to them to get 'gen' parts at a more pocket friendly price.
Good luck.

The irony in the first sentence you've typed is fantastic Paul!

Read the 4th paragraph of the Wikipedia entry for Volvo :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo

"Volvo was established in 1915 as a subsidiary of SKF, a ball bearing manufacturer; however both the Volvo Group and Volvo Cars regard the rollout of the company's first car series, the Volvo ÖV 4, on 14 April 1927, as their beginning."

(Link included in case you want to read more)

With that in mind, you could say Volvo did SKF stuff!

Anyway, they list this for a 1988-90 740 with the B200K carb engine :

https://www.vsm.skf.com/uk/en/products/VKMA06300

Belt and tensioner kit. They even provide instructions on how to do it :

https://www.vsm.skf.com/images/produ...03_EN_0115.PDF

One thing it doesn't mention is retensioning after 600 miles.
