My steering column lock started to play up. Managed to get it off the car, removing the sheer bolts being the only difficult part, (chisel and hammer to turn them) but not making much progress

I removed the guide spring, which was catching and everything worked fine for 7 months but it stuck again.

Removed the lock again and lubed it which has cured the problem short term

Fitted a Mk3 emulator, I bought 7 months ago, but I couldnt get power from the ODB so used an external battery 12v 1amp but cant get it to accept the code. if I power it up with the key in it lights red, power it up with the key out it lights green. Then it flashes red/green but doesn't turn green when the key is put in the ignition. Doesnt retain the code.

emailed several independents for a supply and code price on a new lock. 1 replied £377. no mention of vat status. Thats a huge bill on an old car

Not sure what to do now
  1. buy used lock and try to swap the motor over
  2. try another emulator on basis if it doesnt work it can be returned

anyone tried swapping the motor over? how easy is it to open the case?

Remove the unit and find anyone that have the skills, could be phone repair shop, ask them to copy or swap the eeprom.
