Default M90 oil change

I am gathering together a list of jobs for my garage to do when I am on holiday. I have a slight whine when starting from cold in the winter and I suspect it is the gearbox so I've put that on my garage's to do list. Found a thread which discusses which oil to use, Clan recommends the Volvo one. I'm going to have a big bill with my garage as I'm giving them a lot to do so I am eager to keep costs down. Any opinions on oil and any pointers for my garage please?

PartsforVolvosonline list a Volvo transmission oil for the M90 but they list it for the 850 until 1995. £17.28 a litre. I wasn't aware the M90 was fitted to the 850?

I paid 14.40 plus vat from dealer for genuine, I think they were 1l bottles, so I had 2. I actually find dealer prices on everything is generally cheaper or similar to non genuine.

Same for me from dealer. I've heard that the M90 box is fussy so for the sake of £26 or so quid I would get the correct stuff from dealer

I'll go check the bottle as I had some left because I only topped up the box

Thanks, I'll ring the main dealers for prices. Couldn't find the actual Volvo part 97308 anywhere online. Did the 850 have the M90 or is the website wrong?

As above, yes that’s the one, part number has a 1 on the end where it’s rubbed off, so ends 771

It sounds from the spec you posted Ellie that a synthetic GL4 75W gear oil will do the job nicely.

I believe the 850, although FWD used the same oil as the M90 so the website is right if you look at it as M90 and 850 - they may have economised with words.

M90 is based on the M56 first available in the 850.
