The whole point bearing in mind it can wreck your engine in 30 seconds is to fit the best quality long lasting part you can , so for the sake of a volvo one £3 at most i would get one of those ...

Thanks for the heads up posting. I checked my V40 today for the rusty hose clip issue and its good... It does seems to be a place where a lot of mud spray deposits. I sprayed WD40 on it (not the hose connection point) just to see what state it was really in. I have cleaned and sprayed silicon over the clip to prevent any corrosion.

One of these modified hose clips is £2.84 including vat and including Royal Mail 1st class recorded delivery, so if anyone wants one let me know. I can get them in stock and posted out to you the same day if ordered by 1pm [Part number is 988028]

Hi Simon,

Have just joined the forum and am wondering if you still have one of these available, if so please advise re: ordering, payment. Thanks, Tim

Default This Happens

This happened to me in my last 1998 V40. Was heading through to the local motor factor for antifreeze and the temp shot up about 500 yards from the place. Stoped and opened up and spotted the loose hose . Walked to the factors Got a new hose clip and antifreeze. fittted it in five minutes ,filled up with antifreeze and drove home. Going to check the clip on my new one tommorrow once I dig it out of the snow.

Thankyou for putting this up. On the advice I've just done mine. What I would say is be aware that the clip (like mine was) can be so badly corroded it's not possible to undo the old one. Nor is it really possible to twist it and snap for fear of damage to the rubber hose. I ended up having to gently wear it away with a diamond burr until it let go.

Not sure if Simon [Rufe] is still about but here is another member looking to buy the new stainless steel bottom hose clip.

David.
