A lemon ....who knows, what I do know ,I won't be buying another car from that dealer.
As for my wife's V40, we shall be going to another dealer for servicing and the such like.

These are still basically the older s40/V50/c30 cars mechanically and bodily so nothing specific to the V40 ... except perhaps the New 4 cylinder 2 litre volvo diesel engine EGR issues which are few and far between now . Oh and the creaky clutch pedal which goes back 13 years and only now have they come up with a fix ! Door lock problems are gone now .. Just about all the faults were/are sorted on warranty ...

Door lock problems are gone now??? How has the problem gone? Is it only if the car was taken in whilst the problem happened and was within warranty. Was about to buy a v40 recently and still might. The rear passenger door would not open. So they have fixed the fault but worried it might happen to other doors and end up forking out loads. It's a 62 plate and we love the car so not sure what to do.

Bit late to this, but in 3.5 years and 38,000 Km ownership of a D3 CC, I have had precisely one problem - in the first year of ownership, the driver's-side wing mirror wouldn't stop trying to fold, once it had reached its folded position and kept trying to fold further, with consequent gear-grating noises. It was replaced under guarantee. Otherwise very satisfied.

You really want to be going for the newest possible V40 with the best possible spec.

At a minimum you should get one with the 7 inch display with satnav, the full TFT screen and heated seats. The 5.5" base screen is ridiculously small and its very obvious that a bigger screen is supposed to be there.

The lower spec V40s just don't seem worth the money... avoid anything in "ES" spec as you get this hideous speedometer in place of the TFT display.
