You may need to replace the alarm siren box.

Happened to me about 2.5 years ago.

I've got a 2004 d5. The alarm siren is located inside the drivers side wheel arch. The batteries in the alarm siren fail. Some have tried to replace the batteries. I purchased a new unit. I think it was £120 ish from dealer. I got them to fit it in as I had other work done too. It does not need programming to the vehicle. There are some theads on this issue- do a search

Worth trying to replacing the battery and cleaning the circuit board first as a first resolve.
I got the replacement battery from CPC farnell for 7 quid.
Waiting for the weather to get warm and do the work .
I don't have the message yet but worth changing after 11years.
Saravan.

The alarm backup battery has a finite life, and to fail at 11 to 12 years old is normal.

As the other's say:

the hard way is replacing the battery (DIY work required) inside the siren unit in the front right wheel well (less $$$ but more effort)

the easy way is to replace the siren with a new siren from the dealer (less effort but more $$$)

You are free to choose your path to alarm fix heaven.

The battery is cheap enough, you can get some cheap as chips LiFe batteries from places like www.hobbyking.com

I went the DIY route, but honestly the electronics were sodden. I just never bothered putting it back in in all honesty. The little light on the dash flashes and I get the message on the Info screen, but I'm not bothered, it doesn't affect the running of the car.

Can you use a used siren off eBay or does it have to be a brand new one?

If it is used does it need coding or not? Or maybe it just won't work?

Bear in mind, most sirens for sale on ebay will be of a similar age & condition to yours i.e. probably knackered. You may get lucky but I bought 4 before finding one that worked and just needed new battery.

You will be bothered when the car is stolen and your insurance company won't pay out . The alarm is standard equipment and will be factored into your quote.

This very topic was discussed recently: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpo...04&postcount=5

If you give an insurance company an opportunity to avoid paying out because a security feature has intentionally been disconnected, then don't be surprised if they reject the claim or worse still, refuse to insure you which is something that has to be declared when applying for a new policy.
