My brother is an senior commercial insurance underwriter for Aviva. He has told me on numerous occasions - if an insurance company discovers anything that is intentionally omitted or tampered with or not not maintained correctly that affects the underlying assumptions/confirmations made at the time of taking out a policy for the asset that you are insuring - kiss goodbye any chance of a payout.

Ive done this DIY today. Hardest bit for me is the rivets. Never done rivetiing before in my life , bought the silver line one from EBay, I end up not using ot.
Those rivets are smaller, In the end has to use small bolts which won't rust- high quality one.
Anyway ,followed all the instructions as per CheshireD5.
In XC90 the alarm syste casing slides upwards.
Cut exactly on the junction between grey and black area. Dremel the safety bolt and used a flat screwdriver to loosen it.
Small tip- Extra care should be taken on the opposite side of the electrical plug side, this is where the wire runs.
All other side if cut straight won't affect any thing inside , even if it go deeper.
Cleaned with contact cleaner and double plastic laquer spray from Maplins.
There was no water intrusion , the board was clean when I opened it. Used black silicone for waterproofing.
Prevention is better.
Thank you so much CheshireD5 for your valuable videos and support to this forum , with out you I wouldn't have down this.
Thank you
Saravanan

The exact location is offside wheel arch. Follow cheshired5 video.
Below is a link one of the guide.

One advice, use dremel to make a slot in the safety bolt , which makes easy to unscrew it.

Yes you have to solder it and use a heat shrink Or you can use wire connectors to join the wires.

I recommended everyone who has the car of more than 10years to do it to save the module failure.

I went the DIY route, but honestly the electronics were sodden. I just never bothered putting it back in in all honesty. The little light on the dash flashes and I get the message on the Info screen, but I'm not bothered, it doesn't affect the running of the car.

HI, Would you know the type of battery I would need to buy for my alarm (please). XC90 2006.

Thanks,

I need to do this repair. I'm thinking of replacing the battery instead of putting in a new siren.

I've done this before with my S80, at the time I replaced it with a new siren.

I have come across in ebay battery replacements with connectors, they say it can be used for different volvo models. Are the siren's internal battery the same throughout the volvo P2 models?

I'm not sure if I should remove the siren first and check the board for corrosion or go ahead and order a new battery and then only remove the siren ....

It usually means the dead battery has leaked and damaged the printed circuit board, look on youtube and you will find videos on there on how to fix or replace.
If you catch it earlier enough you can get away with just replacing the battery pack.

Not an XC90 video but the same thing. https://youtu.be/vm_qGUegzw8

+1 Don't waste money on a battery until checking the PCB appears undamaged. If you go down the second hand siren route, get confirmation from the seller that it can be returned / refunded if it does not work. I went thru 4 sirens from ebay until I got lucky.
