Default Original colour

I've started work on restoring the wheels of my 1969 164. On power washing the wheels, several coats of old alloy colour paint came off to reveal this colour. Would this have been the original colour of the wheel? It is a creamy grey colour. I'm keen to keep things as original as possible. Your advice please.

Interesting - I've never seen any that colour before - mostly some shade of silver (anybody know the exact shade)? Mind you, from new the customer could have specified your colour, as Mr Volvo did try to please......
Perhaps someone could learn me something here, cos I aint much help at all really!

I can never remember that colour. what may of happened is the wheels could of been shot blasted and painted hence no more colours underneath. It just dont look like a factory finish as most were base cote and lacquered.

Best match I've found is Ford Silver Fox, which is more a metallic grey than a silver.
