Well this is interesting,

None of these cars really have a 500 mile range, I cant really see petrol station attendants giving sweet sweet petrol away gratis or for nothing, so really its more of a question of how far can you get in the selection of cars.

On my journey to Sweden the year before last I was parked next to a 504 on the Dover ferry if it where an oil burner then it may get close to the destination, I own a Lada and live in Glasgow so would have some spares available to lengthen my chances of reaching Dover although as I live in Glasgow would I need to aim for Dover to reach safety and loved ones, the BMW and VW would have been molested within an inch of there lives and probably get ditched in the nearest pothole along with the Accord that would probably have been lowered worse than the BMW and VW or weighed down by a pair of 18" bass bins.

No doubt the Merc would be in need of a good tune so would only get me as far as Gretna but would at least be strong enough to keep me safe from the zombie like creatures.

This does all count on you actually surviving a night in the Travel lodge.

I'd go for the Lada, that way I'd have more spares available for my own Lada, I should probably put pics up on the showroom, mm

Having worked with modern Peugeots I'd avoid the 504 no matter how much better than it's modern bollocks relations are. Unfortunately there's no Volvo ending in 40 from the 1980s or 1990s on there so it looks like the Lada for me!

Sorry, but I would not pick any of the above.
For me it would have to be a VW Beetle (proper air-cooled one). A Beetle would still start and keep going no matter what was thrown at it. Simplistic motoring at it's reliable best 😊.

Roaming through an apocalylse on foot, whilst trying to locate a VW Beetle (with no guarentees of it containing any fuel) seems a little unwise to me. Especially given the aforementioned reports of zombies lurking amoungst the destruction. I dont think you'd make it out of Scotland...

Honda accord for me!

I wouldn't take the golf because if it was a carb model and still on the pierburg carb it would be nothing but trouble. If it was a gti then the K jet is usually playing up by now.

I might take the BMW but feel it would be beyond basic tools to fix if it broke down.

I wouldn't take the Honda as I don't like them

I wouldn't take the lada as if you got overrun by a horde of zombies then it wouldn't be quick enough to get away and being light they could push it over.

I would take the Mercedes or the Peugeot.

I can just see that list of cars driving along the road after the apocalypse. Of course you would need a plough truck in front to clear the way of rocks, trucks and other cars that no longer run. Take a trails bike to the nearest army base and look for something like a Spartan. Then you can just go around the trucks, over fences, walls and rocks. I used to drive these in the late 70's they will do over 500 miles on a tank of fuel.

Yep, I'd go for the bike as well, being able to weave in and out of the rubble must be useful. If not the Lada. Easily fixable is worth any creature comforts and even the Lada can outpace a zombie.

When 'The Walking Dead' first came on TV me and the missus would amuse ourselves on journeys by identifying places to hole up and defend should the need arise. Somewhere with shelter, water, a strong fence and room to grow food.

Surprisingly harder than it sounds.

In short, its hard to beat a real 500 year old castle! Plenty room for the Lada as well.

For me I think it would be the Merc. using the assumption that you'd have a bit more chance finding spare parts for it than the Lada.

Both would be up to the job & simple to fix but....... how many Lada's are about for parts nowdays ?

the Pug may be OK but I remember my uncle having one & it being written off after a what looked to be a minor collision. It was only 2yrs old at the time.

Thousands of German Taxi drivers back in the day couldn't have been wrong & of course where did all those old taxi's go to die ..... To Africa to live a long & happy retirement as a taxi.

I'd opt for the 504 pickup and bolt a 50 cal to the rear floor. There's still 504's rolling round Afghanistan, Pakistan etc, they're the motorfir the job
